Skips come in a variety of sizes so how do you know which size is right for you? In this brief guide, the team at Thermaright Hire Solutions takes you through the process of choosing the right skip.
Common Skip Sizes
Skips are available in a wide variety of sizes. These are some of the most common sizes available to rent in the UK.
- Mini Skip – A mini skip will hold 2 or 3 cubic yards of waste. People rent a mini skip for small construction or removal projects such as a garden cleanup.
- Midi Skip – This type of skip typically holds 4 to 5 cubic yards of waste. People will often rent a midi skip when they are renovating their kitchen or cleaning out their basement.
- Builder’s Skip – With 7 or 8 cubic yards of space the Builder’s skip is used for medium size construction projects. For the record this is the largest size skip you can hire for soil and rubble removal.
- Large Skip – The large skip is typically 10, 11 or 12 cubic yards in volume. This size skip is commonly used for household renovations or the renovation or remodeling of a retail shop.
While the above provides a pretty good general idea of which skips are used for which projects it’s not enough to make a definitive call. To do that you’ll need to take a good look at what you plan on removing and try to estimate how much space it will take up when it’s all brought together.
You will also need to determine where your skip will sit once it’s delivered to the site. Do you have enough space for it? Is it going to interfere with your garage or stick out onto the pavement? If you don’t have room on your property you may need to get a permit and put it in the street.
